Exceptional Miniature and Micro-Miniature Scottish Highland Cattle

The Story Behind Grand Cru Miniature Cattle Ranch

Some things in life are carefully planned.

And then there are the things that simply grow into something much bigger than you ever imagined.

For us, that has been Miniature Highland Cattle.

Welcome to Grand Cru Miniature Cattle Ranch.

What began with a love for these remarkable animals has grown into a family-owned, veteran-owned business built around miniature and micro-miniature Scottish Highland cattle—and an ever-deepening passion for genetics, reproduction, embryo transfer, and developing exceptional cattle.

But Grand Cru has always been about more than cattle.

It is about people, relationships, learning, and helping others discover the joy of raising these extraordinary animals..

About Our Company

Our Beginning

Grand Cru Miniature Cattle Ranch is located in western Washington, where we raise miniature and micro-miniature Scottish Highland cattle with an emphasis on health, temperament, quality, and thoughtful genetics.

Over the years, our passion has taken us far beyond simply raising cattle. We've had the opportunity to work alongside some of America's finest breeders, genetic companies, and cattle genomics consultants. We continue to learn, develop new genetics, and explore the science behind producing healthy, beautiful, well-rounded animals.

Our work has also connected us with the broader cattle industry. Through our memberships with the Holstein Association USA and local cattle associations, we've built relationships with dairies, breeders, genetic companies, and cattle businesses throughout Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, and beyond.

Those relationships have become an important part of who we are.

Why Miniature Highland Cattle?

There is something special about Highland cattle.

Their beautiful coats, distinctive horns, gentle personalities, and hardy nature make them unforgettable. Miniature Highlands offer many of those same qualities in a smaller package, making them an appealing choice for hobby farms, small acreage, first-time livestock owners, and families who simply want to experience life with cattle.

They can be wonderful companions and, with responsible breeding and management, valuable additions to a small farm or breeding program.

For some people, the journey begins with a dream of owning a Highland.

For others, it begins with one calf.

And sometimes, it begins simply because they fell in love with the breed.

We've seen all of those journeys—and we've been fortunate enough to become part of them.

More Than a Ranch

As Grand Cru has grown, so has what we are able to offer.

Our focus is miniature and micro-miniature Scottish Highland cattle, but our services extend beyond live animals. We offer Scottish Highland embryos and bull semen, along with delivery services, photography sessions, parties and special experiences, and mentoring and coaching for those learning how to raise calves or develop their own cattle operations and barn setups.

For breeders who aren't ready for a live calf, frozen genetics can provide another opportunity to participate in the future of Highland cattle, both domestically and internationally.

We believe there should be different ways to become part of this world.

Everyone's goals, circumstances, and timing are different.

The Meaning Behind "Grand Cru"

The name Grand Cru carries a special meaning for us.

In French, grand cru is associated with exceptional quality and prestigious classification. For us, it represents something slightly different but equally important: great growth, natural quality, and a commitment to excellence.

That idea has become part of our philosophy.

We're not interested in simply producing smaller cattle.

We're interested in thoughtful genetics, responsible breeding, healthy animals, sound development, and continually raising the standard for what miniature and micro-miniature Highland cattle can become.

We're still learning.

We're still developing genetics.

We're still discovering what is possible.

And that's what makes this journey so exciting.

Why We Do It

For some of our customers, cattle are about breeding and genetics.

For others, they're about building a small farm or creating a different kind of life.

For some families, raising cattle becomes an opportunity to teach children about responsibility, compassion, agriculture, and where their food comes from.

And for others, there doesn't need to be a complicated reason at all.

They just love Highland cattle.

They love the personalities.

They love the coats.

They love watching a calf grow.

They love the quiet presence of these animals and the way they can become part of everyday life.

We've had the privilege of watching our cattle become part of so many different stories.

Those stories are what keep us excited.

The genetics are fascinating. The science is exciting. The milestones matter.

But watching someone meet their new calf for the first time?

That never gets old.

That's why we do this.

Come Along With Us

We're not finished.

We're not finished learning.

We're not finished developing new genetics.

We're not finished dreaming about what these cattle can become.

In many ways, we're still at the beginning.

So whether you're considering your first miniature Highland, searching for your next breeding animal, interested in genetics, thinking about starting a small farm, or simply curious about what we're doing, we invite you to come along with us.

Ask questions.

Get to know our cattle.

Follow the babies as they grow.

Celebrate the successes with us—and watch us learn from the challenges.

You don't have to know exactly where your journey will take you.

We certainly didn't.

Sometimes you just have to start with something you believe in and see where it leads.

For us, it led here.

Grand Cru Miniature Cattle Ranch.

And we're so glad you're here to share the next chapter with us.

A heartfelt thank you!
